How long will the activity/lesson/project take?
Budget cuts are a terrible opportunity to waste! How did Birmingham Covington School reimagine itself while cutting costs? Presented with a budget cut "opportunity", we asked two questions: What are the critical skills and dispositions needed to thrive in an ever changing world? How do we truly engage students in learning?

Join us as we reflect on the recursive visioning, development, and implementation of Engage, a multiage core subject that integrates elements of inquiry, design, communication, technology, and the traditional core subjects.

  • Where did problem and project-based activities fit in?
  • How does Engage work on a day to day basis?
  • How did student and teacher thinking shift?
  • What difficulties were faced?

  • Be sure to include an opportunity for students to practice/employ a 21Ct or !gnite skill (see examples below)
    • general example: this is an activity that asks students to "retell" information, and is general enough to be applied across the curriculum
    • more specific example: this is an activity connected with 3rd grade Science - circuits & electricity
